Tibetan Spaniel

The Tibetan Spaniel is a highly intelligent dog coming from the mountainous regions of Tibet. These little dogs were originally bred in the monasteries of Tibet where the monks held them in high esteem. They were used as watchdogs and warned of approaching visitors by their barking. These characteristics are still found in the breed today as they make very good house dogs, warning of any unusual occurrence. They should have great dignity and proud bearing, indicating how much the powerful monks, their masters, prized them in Tibet, and it should be realised that these dogs could not be bought from the monks but were given as valued gifts to esteemed friends.

The Tibetan Spaniel is a highly intelligent dog coming from the mountainous regions of Tibet. These little dogs were originally bred in the monasteries of Tibet where the monks held them in high esteem. They were used as watchdogs and warned of approaching visitors by their barking. The coat is a double coat, silky in texture, smooth on face and front of legs, of moderate length on body, but lying rather flat. Ears and back of forelegs nicely feathered, tail and buttocks well furnished with longer hair. Should not be over-coated and bitches tend to carry less coat and mane than dogs.

In preparing your Tibetan Spaniel start with shampoos, the eyes, face, head and expression are so important, for this use Plush Puppy Let’s Face It. This is a hypoallergenic sulfate free low foaming shampoo designed for faces. It’s no tear formula with the highest quality Blue Cypress Extracts, Panthenol with Pro Vitamin B and SugaNate. These special ingredients clean, sooth, adds moisture, aids healing and anti-inflammatory benefits. A small golf ball sized amounts directly to the face and eye area allows you to thoroughly clean without causing irritation. Can be used in and around ears also with the same benefits. It’s low foaming design allows ease of rinsing yet complete cleaning. Leave this on during the shampooing process to protect any possible eye irritations.

For the body in full and correct textured coat use Plush Puppy All Purpose Shampoo at a dilution rate of 1:5 (1 part shampoo to 5 parts warm water) in a mixer bottle. We call this the ‘Shine’ shampoo as it features natural Henna stalk extracts that impart a beautiful gloss and shine to your dog’s coat. All Purpose Shampoo is primarily derived from organic sources and also features Alpine and Lichen herbs.  It is wonderful to use on normal to slightly dehydrated coats.

For dogs that need more softening to the coat use Plush Puppy Natural Conditioning Shampoo at the same rate of 1:5. This adds a softening result to the coat.

For those dogs that are out of coat or an area that could use more coat either all over or just in specific areas use Plush Puppy Body Building Shampoo. This can be used at a dilution rate of 1:5. This shampoo does have enormous lift and a bodifying effect to the coat without an artificial feel plus it is wonderful for the coat as it is primarily naturally derived and infused with beneficial plant extracts.

Conditioning the Tibetan Spaniel coat can vary. To achieve the best results we recommend the following 3 products and methods depending on the condition of the coat.

For a ‘normal’ texture use Plush Puppy Natural Silk Protein Conditioner.   This is the conditioner of conditioners! Natural Silk Protein Conditioner will not only leave a great finish on your coat, but will reduce static electricity and fluffiness in a ‘fly away’ coat. Organic sources with silk amino acids and plant extracts make this conditioner one that gives consistent results. Can be diluted 1:5 and up to 1:10 for light use.

For those dogs with too soft a coat use Plush Puppy Reviva Coat. This is a remarkable product designed to moisturise all types of coats without leaving them greasy or feeling oily. This amazing formula really gets results. Brilliant for conditioning coats that cannot take a regular conditioner or where you need to retain fullness, but not change the coats texture. Also brilliant on coats that need a totally non-greasy conditioner. Simply shake the can well and apply a golf ball sized amount to hands. Spread through the coat then comb, brush or groom as usual. Can be left in or rinsed out.

For dogs with damaged or dry coats use Plush Puppy Coat Rescue. Coat Rescue’s naturally blended essential oils and pure plant extracts help restore strength and elasticity to dehydrated and tired coat hair. Mix 2 tablespoons into 1-2 cups of warm water. Apply using a sponge to the damaged area of the coat. Let sit in the coat for a minimum of 10 mins (longer is better) and rinse off.

Plush Puppy Seabreeze Oil is also perfect for a damaged coat or just protecting the coat. Blended from essential plant oils for calming and healing qualities, it is an innovative formula featuring wheat germ oil, calendula oil and evening primrose oil. Adds amazing hydration to the coat without changing the natural texture. Gives a healthy vigour to the coat and skin. Use 1 tablespoon to 4 litres/1 gallon of warm water and sponge liberally onto the coat. LEAVE IN. DO NOT RINSE. Adjust dilution rate according to coat needs. This and Coat Rescue can be mixed together and applied as one.

Again, is out of coat or just needing more in areas use Plush Puppy Volumising Spray is that added extra for the finishing touches. A light spray and then brush in. Great for use on the tail or pants to just add that extra volume where you need it. Use Volumising Spray ‘Ready to Use’ for quicker, easier and fuller coat results either before blow drying or use to ‘fluff’ up the coat before the show. This is a hair thickener not a hair stiffener and not easily detectable.

Brushing during the week or at the show the best product is Plush Puppy OMG. This is a a revolutionary grooming spray that lives up to its name. Repels dirt. Completely water soluble. Will not build up. Effortless disentangler. OMG is available in a Concentrate that you can dilute to your individual requirements or a  Ready-To-Use Formula.

A light spray of OMG and brushing in allows this product to refresh the coat leaving it feeling wonderful.  It separates the coat and leaves the most amazing finish. A normal grooming spray at 1:20 for those heavy coats or as light as 1:30 for that show freshen up.

Using OMG can be a one-off at shows or during the drying process after bathing. This is also an amazing product for regular brushing as it hydrates the coat reducing stress and coat loss.
